Okay, environmental rant ahead.

A few days ago I posted a short little rant about my canvassing efforts.

For a little background, I'm working for a group called the Dogwood initiative. We exist to keep oil tankers from the coast of British Columbia, and more recently we've tried to stop the enbridge pipeline from being implimented by the BC government.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enbridge…

And I've been canvassing, trying to stop the pipeline from being built. Now the stiffest resistance to my work has been from relatively wealthy older white people in nicer neighbourhoods.

When asked why they support the pipeline, they cite mostly economic reasons. Without ever really giving one economic reason. When I mention that the pipeline will genereate one billion dollars in revenue over forty years they say nothing, when I say that a single oil spill will cost one billion to ten billion dollars to clean up, they say nothing. When I mention that all the oil from the pipeline will be refined in China and sold back to Canada as hugely expensive prices, they say nothing. It's just "economics." And I'm left hanging and wondering at the incredible stupidity at the wealthy.

To say nothing of the fact that the pipeline is set to create about forty five permenant jobs and threaten hundreds of jobs in the BC fisheries and tourism industries.

One moron insisted that they would shut down the University of Victoria would be shut down unless we got the pipeline, and if we leaked we should stop being whiney bitches because there's a lot of pollution in the ocean. Right, first, because oil companies want to give away their precious dollars to fund a university that's mostly funded by taxpayer dollars or that because the sea is full of shit, we should add more shit to it.

Ignoring mass ecological damage, there's no good fucking economic reason for this damn pipeline. The company enbridge who is going to build the pipeline has a long history of having oil spills and half assing at cleaning it up. One idiot said that he dind't care that a single oil spill would eat up ten times the pipeline's profits because insurance would cover the cleanup cost.

. . . what . . . the . . . fuck . . .?

That's like deliberately giving yourself cancer by smoking and smiling and saying that your insurance will cover chemotherapy.

BUT IT'S STILL FUCKING CHEMOTHERAPY AND CANCER!!!!! A DONKEY WOULD RATHER HAVE NO TAIL AND ON FLIES!!!! I WOULD RATHER HAVE NO JOB AND NO NEED FOR MONEY OR MATERIEL NEEDS!!!!!

Uh, but recovering, here's a pipeline being built by a company with a history of shitty worksmanship who never cleans up their shit, with almost no money going into the Canadian economy, hardly any Canadian workers being hired and the only people benfiting will be a couple of Chinese and Canadian billionaires.

What is the fucking economic value of this thing? Talking to these rich old fucks, I get the impression that they're operating on a purely emotional level. Say economics and they start to smile while having their thumbs up their asses. There's no thought, no intelligence, they're a horse that can't even be led to water.

Ah! It drives me nuts!

Ah, anyway, comment and read, I'll make any debate.

Hope you enjoyed.
